Não digo que é perda de tempo lê-los ("lê-los"!). Mas experimente ficar um tempo sem ler, e ignore os da TV. Não faz falta, acredite. Ah, tem as inevitáveis conversas sobre atualidades, mas isso é fácil. Quando alguém comentar sobre o último escândalo político -- ou o equivalente japonês, o tufão -- faça um comentário genérico: "esse país não vai pra frente, mesmo, né", ou "ainda bem que não chegou no Japão, foi só em Okinawa mesmo".

Mas se ler, tem que selecionar muito bem, como este clipping do Dave Barry.
