A Birthday

                 Christina Rossetti

My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;
My heart is like an apple-tree
Whose boughs are bent with thickset fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a halcyon sea;
My heart is gladder than all these
Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a dais of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love is come to me.

Cardinal Sin is dead

I am usually too lazy to write obituaries. But today there is no place for laziness. Cardinal Sin has died.

The accomplishments and influence of Cardinal Sin go without saying. My sentiments -- mostly of wrath -- are with you, Filipinos. I know many of you are desolate and hopeless. How in the world could we live without Sin? Despair not, my brothers. Cardinal Sin will be forever alive in our hearts and minds, and hopefully also in our mouths and other lesser body parts. And let us not forget that we still have Venial Sin to guide us.

o que disse, amor? Dor-de-cabeça?

Russian scientists claim a beating on the buttocks with a strong cane is the perfect way to cure everything from depression to alcoholism by releasing the body's natural "happy chemicals" known as endorphins.
